At The Dental Studio, Wakefield we are now accepting registered and non-registered patients for direct access to the hygienist for a dental clean (scale and polish).
It is our job to prevent and treat gum disease of our patients and the best way to avoid unnecessary dental treatment is booking regular visits with one of our dental hygienists. We have an extremely experienced team of highly trained and qualified hygienists who all provide the very best oral hygiene services and advice.
The hygienist will clean your teeth to:
- Prevent and treat gum disease
- Make gums healthier
- Reduce bleeding
- Prevent tooth loss
- Leave teeth cleaner
Our hygienists will also show you the best ways to keep your teeth free of plaque. Plaque is a sticky, whitish deposit that forms on your teeth when bacteria mixes with food and saliva. The bacteria in plaque produce chemicals that cause gum disease. In turn, this can lead to bleeding gums, gum shrinkage and ultimately tooth loss.
What is a scale and polish?
At your appointment, the hygienist will provide a scale and polish which will involve cleaning around the gum line on the back and front of your teeth to remove any plaque and tartar. This process is designed to give your teeth a thorough clean which is much more effective than brushing alone.
Do hygienist treatments hurt?
A scale and polish is usually pain free. However, if you experience any discomfort, the hygienist can use anaesthetic creams, or provide you with a local anaesthetic. It is important to let the hygienist know at the time if you have any problems so they can help ease your discomfort.
Can children visit the hygienist?
Yes. Children can benefit from having their teeth polished. The hygienist can also apply fluoride varnishes to help prevent decay.
How can I maintain good oral hygiene?
Our hygienist will show you how to care for your mouth using a toothbrush, fluoride toothpaste and floss. This means you can look after your teeth and gums between visits. Brushing your teeth properly and cutting down on sugary foods and drinks can have a big impact on your dental hygiene.
How much will it cost?
If you would like to visit our hygienist for a thorough dental clean (scale and polish). The cost of this service will be £65 for a 25 minute appointment.
Previously until a recent change in the law, patients had to be referred by a dentist to have an appointment with the hygienist, but now you can book an appointment directly. For more information regarding our direct access policy, click here.
